Junk removal at the Beaches works a little differently than in the rest of Jacksonville, because Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach and Atlantic Beach each run their own trash programs with their own rules. If you need furniture, appliances, yard debris or a full cleanout gone from a beach home, condo or rental, you can use your city’s bulk service when it fits or hire a crew to carry it out.
Quick answer: Jacksonville Beach uses Waste Pro for bulk, appliance and yard collection and does not remove contractor or tree-cutter debris. Atlantic Beach schedules appliance and tire pickups through Public Works at (904) 247-5834 and limits yard waste to 5 cubic yards per week. For anything bigger than your city will take, Cowford Can Co. handles junk removal, cleanouts and dumpster trailers at the Beaches. Call or text (833) 586-5255.
Beaches trash rules at a glance
Jacksonville Beach
The city’s sanitation services page says Waste Pro USA handles garbage, recycling, yard waste, tires, appliances and bulk collection. A few points worth knowing:
- Collection runs from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., and a pickup is not considered missed until after that window.
- The city is not responsible for removing contractor, landscaper or tree cutter debris. The contractor or homeowner must dispose of it.
- Missed pickups go to Waste Pro at 904-740-2950; other concerns go to Public Works.
Atlantic Beach
According to the city’s solid waste collection page:
- Furniture, TVs, microwaves and bedding go out next to the garbage toter on your regular pickup day.
- Appliances and tires are picked up Tuesdays and Fridays only and must be scheduled through Public Works at (904) 247-5834. Appliance doors must be removed and water heaters drained. Tires are limited to two at a time and six per year.
- Yard waste is limited to 5 cubic yards once a week. Branches must be 5 feet or shorter and 6 inches or less in diameter, and no item may exceed 40 pounds.
- Contractor yard debris must be removed by the contractor and can be tagged or fined if set out for city pickup.
- Properties north of Dutton Island Road are served by City of Jacksonville contractors.
Neptune Beach
Neptune Beach directs residents with hazardous waste to the City of Jacksonville’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 2675 Commonwealth Ave., as noted on its hazardous waste page. Check with the city for current bulk and yard waste rules for your address.
Why Beaches cleanouts are different
- Tight lots and parking. Many beach streets have narrow lots, shared driveways and limited street parking, which affects where a truck or dumpster trailer can sit.
- Condos and townhomes. Elevators, stairwells and HOA rules about move times and dumpsters come into play.
- Rentals and turnovers. Short-term and long-term rentals often need fast turnaround between guests or tenants.
- Salt and humidity. Furniture, grills and appliances near the ocean rust and break down faster, so they tend to be replaced more often.
- Storm cleanup. After a storm, fences, patio furniture and yard debris can pile up faster than weekly collection can handle.
What Cowford Can Co. does at the Beaches
Cowford Can Co. serves Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach and Atlantic Beach along with the rest of Duval County. Common jobs include:
- Single items and full loads through our junk removal service: sofas, mattresses, appliances, patio furniture and grills.
- Rental and move-out cleanouts when tenants or guests leave things behind. Our moving cleanout guide covers what to clear before a move.
- Yard debris and storm cleanup through our yard debris removal service, including loads bigger than your city’s weekly limit.
- Remodel projects with a dumpster trailer rental in 17.5 or 20 cubic yard sizes, when you want to load at your own pace.
For contractor and landscaper debris, which Jacksonville Beach and Atlantic Beach both say the city will not collect, a haul-away or dumpster trailer is the usual solution.
Tips for a smooth Beaches pickup
- Tell us about parking: driveway, alley access, or street only.
- For condos, reserve the elevator and check HOA hours for moving and hauling.
- Keep items off the sidewalk and out of the street while you wait.
- Separate hazardous items like paint, pool chemicals and propane before the crew arrives.
- Send photos ahead of time, including anything under the house, in the garage or on the deck, so the quote covers everything.
- For rentals, give us check-out and check-in times so the work fits between guests or tenants.
